Anniversary Dinner Sydney — The Heritage Precinct, Parramatta, for the Milestone Worth Marking

An anniversary dinner has a different job than a birthday dinner. A birthday celebrates a person; an anniversary celebrates the accumulation of years between two people, and the venue needs to hold that specific weight rather than simply being nice. The Heritage Precinct, Parramatta, is a building that has been standing, doing exactly what it does, since 1928 — which makes it a fitting address for an evening about what holds up over time.

A Building That Has Already Marked Its Own Anniversaries

The Heritage Precinct occupies a Circa 1928 former Bank of New South Wales at 215 Church Street, Parramatta — a building now approaching its own centenary. Three venues sit on one level: an AGFG Chef-Hatted Japanese restaurant, a cocktail lounge with the world’s longest-aged single malt Scotch whisky ever bottled at the back bar, and a premium Cuban cigar lounge with an exclusive house roll available nowhere else in Australia. None of it was assembled for anniversaries. It is simply what the building has offered, every year, since long before this one.

The Anniversary Evening — Three Chapters

Begin at Heritage Lounge. For the milestone that justifies it — the 25th, the 50th, the year that gets a number attached — Decanter No. 69 of the Gordon & MacPhail Generations Glenlivet 1940, 80 Year Old is at the back bar: one of only 250 in the world, distilled in 1940 and bottled exactly 80 years later. For the toast, the Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque, in its hand-painted Art Nouveau bottle, is the specific gesture an anniversary calls for.

Dinner at Oribu follows. The AGFG Chef-Hatted kitchen produces its seasonal omakase menu — every guest receives the same considered progression, so the evening moves at the pace of the occasion rather than the pace of a menu being read. Sonia Arida works in the kitchen; the fifty-year-old olive tree at the centre of the dining room has been growing for roughly as long as some of the anniversaries being marked.

Le Cheval closes the evening. A cognac from the collection — Hennessy XO, Hine Antique XO, Rémy Martin Louis XIII — and the exclusive house roll from Hector Luis and the Robaina family of Vuelta Abajo, available nowhere else in Australia, extend the evening at its own pace. For two people marking years together, that unhurried close is the part of the night that isn’t on the itinerary of a standard dinner reservation.
