夏の物語 Natsu no Monogatari — Oribu’s AGFG Chef-Hatted Summer Menu 2026 Has Arrived
物語 — monogatari — is the Japanese word for story, but its literal roots say something more specific: mono means things, kotari means to speak. A monogatari is the things that speak. When Oribu names its summer menu 夏の物語 — A Summer Story — it is describing exactly what a great seasonal menu does: it allows the season’s finest things to speak for themselves, guided by a kitchen that knows how to listen to what the season provides.
The shift from Fuyu no Nukumori to Natsu no Monogatari is one of the most complete transformations that a genuinely seasonal restaurant undertakes. The winter menu — built around depth, warmth, truffle, and the richness that cold weather demands — retires. The summer menu introduces what the new season provides: lighter seafood at its warm-weather peak, brighter acidic preparations, the citrus and stone fruit notes that spring and summer produce at their finest. Same kitchen. Same three consecutive AGFG Chef Hats. A completely new seasonal story.
What Summer Means in the Oribu Kitchen
The summer menu at Oribu is built on the Japanese principle of shun — the specific moment when an ingredient is at its absolute peak quality. Where winter shun belonged to cold-water seafood, rich wagyu preparations, and the truffle from the southern highlands, summer shun belongs to the warm-water species at their seasonal best, to the stone fruits and summer citrus at their most vivid, and to the lighter preparations that allow the clarity of summer ingredients to express themselves without the weight that winter food requires. The kitchen’s approach to each season is not a modification of the previous menu — it is a complete reorientation around what the new season demands.
The Summer Omakase
The omakase programme continues through the summer season — Takumi no Sashimi for two guests, Umi no Sasayaki (Whispers of the Sea, 90 pieces), and Shio no Houseki (Jewels of the Tide, 141 pieces) — each adapted to the seasonal seafood now at its peak. The warm-water species that have replaced the cold-water winter selection provide a different character: lighter, brighter, with a mineral cleanness that contrasts with the richer winter expressions. The caviar programme — White Sturgeon, Oscietra Black, and Black Pearl Beluga — continues year-round, here presented alongside summer preparations that play the briny richness of caviar against the bright acidity of the season’s produce.
The Wagyu Programme in Summer
The Hida A5 Wagyu Beef Sirloin programme continues through 夏の物語 in summer-specific preparations that work alongside the season’s lighter dishes rather than anchoring the menu as the winter wagyu versions did. The Wagyu Bulgogi and Kimchi Taco — Gyoza Skin, Hida A5 Wagyu, Kimchi, Cabbage, Spicy Gochujang Aioli — and the Wagyu Tataki — Garlic Flake, Salted Egg Yolk, Garlic Ponzu, Horseradish Cream, Chive — are available as part of the lounge and share plate programme through both seasons.
Oribu is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm. Reservations via SevenRooms at theheritageprecinct.com.au. Level 1, 215–217 Church Street, Parramatta NSW 2150.
